“If you ask me when this all started, it was when I was seven years old swimming in the Tennessee River with my mother, father and sister. Suddenly, I stepped in a big, really deep hole and I began to sink further and further into the dark hole and kept going down and down. I could not swim and as I was going farther and farther away from the sunlight, I could hear my mother screaming to my father to find me. Her screams got fainter and fainter and I was all out of breath. At that instant a big light appeared in front of me a little boy’s face seemed to light up the water more golden and brighter than the sun way up at the surface of the water. The water took on a different smell. The face smiled and told me to have faith. The face told me if I would take a deep breath I would be pushed up to the top of the water. As a small, terrified child I remember decided I might as well try because I was sinking further down very quickly. It was cold, dark and I was very scared. I took the breath. I could not believe how much that breath of air filled my lungs and at that moment a force from somewhere propelled my small body straight up at a speed I had never experienced. I flew up out of the river and my parents were able to get me out of the water and discovered the “hole with no bottom” in the river where I disappeared in.

I smelled the water and the river’s edge as though I had flashed back in it. Prior to seeing the picture, I watched Elvis Presley on the Tommy Dorsey show; I was 12 years old.
